When you connect to a Zoom Meeting you will see the following window.
You will see a video of yourself in the center area (if video is turned on) and you'll be able to hear the attendees. The Mute button will mute your mic. The Stop Video button will stop displaying your video in the meeting.
The image has both the mic and video turned ON - These controls can be operated independently and during a meeting the MIC should be kept MUTED unless you're speaking.
The image has both the mic and video turned OFF - In a meeting the camera should be left ON
